Battery Storage

Generate it in the day. Use it at night.

Battery storage turns a good solar system into a great one.

Why storage

Why storage changes the solar equation.

Without storage, surplus solar energy is either wasted or exported for a few pence per unit. A battery stores it instead — so you use your own free energy in the evening, when the sun is gone and grid prices are highest.

How it works

How it works in your home.

1

Panels generate

Daylight produces electricity on your roof.

2

Home uses directly

Your appliances draw what they need first.

3

Surplus charges battery

Anything extra tops up your storage.

4

Evening draw

Use stored energy after dark, for free.

5

Grid backup

Only if needed, as a fallback.

70–90%

of annual electricity needs covered for homes with solar plus battery storage.

FAQ

Questions about battery storage.

In most cases, yes. A retrofit battery can be installed alongside most existing solar systems — we assess compatibility as part of the process.

Battery payback is typically 8–12 years on its own, but much shorter when combined with solar or a time-of-use electricity tariff.

Standard grid-tied batteries do not provide backup power by default. Some models (like the Powerwall 3 with gateway) can be configured for backup — we advise at assessment.
