The basics

What you actually need to know about solar in the UK.

Solar panels feed your home with electricity during daylight hours. Surplus energy charges a battery or earns you money through the Smart Export Guarantee.

The average UK home saves between £500 and £1,000 a year — and with 0% VAT until March 2027, there's rarely been a better time.

FAQ

Common questions about solar installation.

Most residential installs are completed in one to two days once your survey, DNO approval and hardware are in place.

Yes — panels generate from daylight rather than direct sun, so they produce power on overcast days, just at a reduced rate.

Panels are typically warrantied for 25 years and inverters for 10–12, with a workmanship guarantee from your MCS installer.

In most cases solar has no material effect on home insurance — we advise you to notify your insurer, and we'll provide the documentation they need.
